According to the Times of Israel report, more than 3 lakh people gathered in it. Apart from this, more than 2 lakh people gathered for the protest in different cities. During the protest, people kept 6 coffins as a symbol of six dead bodies.

One organization claimed the crowd was even bigger than this. The Hostage and Missing Family Forum claimed to CNN that more than 7 lakh people gathered in the demonstrations held in Israel. More than 5 lakh people came to protest in Tel Aviv alone. They also protested outside Prime Minister Netanyahu’s house.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Israel on Sunday after the death of six hostages in Gaza.

Public anger grew as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to sign a ceasefire agreement.

The protest demanded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ensure the release of the remaining 101 hostages.

Israeli public angry over non-release of hostages
The protesters were accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government of not taking concrete steps to release the hostages. They were demanding a ceasefire and the release of the remaining hostages. They said that if this agreement had been reached, the hostages could have been freed. Netanyahu does not want to compromise due to political reasons.

According to the report, the protesters continued to protest throughout the night. They blocked several highways. They were shouting slogans of ‘Now-Now’ (right now). They were demanding a ceasefire with Hamas as soon as possible. Many people were shouting slogans for the return of the hostages alive. The protesters were holding Israeli flags, yellow ribbons in honor of the hostages and placards asking for forgiveness from the 6 killed hostages.

The police sprayed water on the people blocking the highway and removed them from there.

The workers union called for a nationwide strike
Meanwhile, Israel’s largest labor union, the General Federation of Labor, has called for a nationwide strike starting Monday. The trade union, which represents 800,000 workers in sectors such as health, transport and banking, said the strike would begin at 6 a.m. on Monday.

The aim of this strike is to increase pressure on the government for a ceasefire so that the remaining Hamas hostages in Gaza can be brought back. Due to the strike, Israel’s largest international airport Ben-Gurion will also remain closed. However, the airport authority has denied this.

This will be the first general strike by the trade unions after Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7. Earlier, a general strike was also held in June 2023, after which Prime Minister Netanyahu had to postpone the plan for judicial reforms.

Police have detained 29 protesting people.

Defense minister got angry with his own government
After the bodies of 6 hostages were found, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant has attacked his own government. He said that the government is giving priority to occupying the border area instead of freeing the hostages.

Gallant was referring to the buffer zone between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, the Philadelphia Corridor. Three months ago, the Israeli army had captured this 14 km long area. Gallant said that we do not have time now. If we continue working like this, we will never be able to free the remaining hostages.

Gallant said that releasing the hostages should be our priority. After releasing them, we can capture the Philadelphia corridor within 8 hours.

Earlier, the Israeli army recovered the bodies of 6 hostages from Hamas tunnels in Rafah, Gaza on Friday night. The postmortem report found that they were shot in the head from a very close range between Thursday and Friday morning. The Israeli army said that Hamas brutally killed these hostages shortly before the soldiers reached there.
