A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran has alleged that a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park assaulted him with an iron rod, causing serious head injuries and a fractured hand.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) made the allegations in a complaint filed at the Sector 65 police station, accusing the attendant of attacking him following an altercation over parking on September 10. He also alleged that the accused threatened to kill him after the incident.

Gupta, who was part of the IAF’s ‘Op Sagar’ team during the 1999 Kargil War, had visited Magnum Global Park for a family dinner at Gonzo restaurant that night.

According to his complaint, Gupta dropped his family at the restaurant around 8 pm before heading to park his car. He alleged that parking staff directed him between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking before eventually refusing to park his vehicle.

The dispute escalated when Gupta attempted to reverse his car. He alleged that one of the attendants struck the windshield, apparently trying to damage it, and then returned carrying an iron rod.

Gupta alleged that the attendant hit him twice with the rod, first on his hand and then on his head. The blow to his head resulted in heavy bleeding, he claimed.

“Surgery has been done; I am recovering now. I had multiple compound fractures. The guy tried to break my window pane; I was hit by an iron rod, he broke my arm and hit me on my head. A chef who was a bystander thankfully helped me. My family then got me to Medanta. There was no help from the police even after I reached the hospital,” he told CNN News18.

Gupta was subsequently taken to Medanta Hospital by his family, where he remains admitted. He has sought the registration of an attempt-to-murder case against the accused.

Following the veteran’s allegations, police have begun investigating the matter. The allegations are yet to be independently verified and will be established after the investigation.

‘Operation Safed Sagar’ was a high-altitude air operation undertaken by the Indian Air Force in 1999 to flush out Pakistani infiltrators from occupied Indian positions in the Kargil sector. A Netflix series released in August pays tribute to the air operation.

Police Files Suo Motu FIR

No written complaint has been received from the victim till now. However, Gurugram Police has taken suo motu cognisance of the viral video and is registering an FIR in the matter.

The accused will be identified and apprehended at the earliest, and strictest legal action will be taken against all those found involved.

Gurugram Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards road rage, reckless behaviour, and any form of unlawful conduct on the roads. Any such incident will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
