Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney’s nearly four-hour long documentary at the Venice Film Festival has presented the story of Elon Musk from a different perspective. In the film, Musk’s ex-wife, ex-girlfriend and old colleagues have made many claims about his behavior, thinking and attitude towards power. The story of the documentary begins in the 1990s, when Musk was growing as an ambitious businessman. At that time his goals were related to ideas like fighting the climate crisis and making space travel cheaper. However, Gibney claims that over time Musk’s ambitions reached a point where he began to put his goals above ethics and law. In the film, questions have also been raised on Musk’s promises like colonizing Mars and autonomous cars. Gibney claims that these promises became a means to attract investors and strengthen Musk’s image. ‘It is dangerous for one person to have so much power’ Gibney says, “People assume that a very rich person cannot be crazy. But the real concern is when a person is very rich and powerful and also has unusual thinking.” Neuroscientist Sam Harris, who is close to Musk, says, “It is dangerous for a person elected without the public to have so much power, because it impacts politics, economy and global equations.” Machines will control humans like pets. In the documentary, Musk’s first wife Justine Wilson claims that Musk sees women as machines for producing children. According to him, Musk believes that one woman can be easily replaced by another woman. The film also mentions Musk’s ideas about AI and the future. According to him, humans may be living in an artificial simulation and in the future machines can control humans like pets. According to the documentary, Musk had also shared such ideas with computer scientist Jeffrey Hinton.
