A 22-year-old Ahmedabad woman was killed by her father and brother over a viral video, with the murder later staged as a road accident.

A 22-year-old woman in Ahmedabad was killed by her father and brother in the name of ‘honour’ after a video involving her and a man went viral, with the accused later attempting to pass off the murder as a road accident.
Sofia, who worked as a hospital receptionist, was initially believed to have died after a speeding vehicle struck the motorcycle on which she was travelling pillion. However, the investigation into the alleged hit-and-run uncovered a suspected conspiracy involving her own family.
Father, Brother Took Sofia On A Ride
The incident took place nearly a month ago, on the night of August 12.
According to the investigation, Sofia’s father, Mohmand Farooq, and her brother, 38-year-old Mohmand Habil, took her out on a motorcycle ride.
While on the way, Habil allegedly diverted the motorcycle onto a secluded dirt path near Gheljipura village.
Woman Attacked With Hammer
Police allege that once they reached the secluded area, Habil struck Sofia on the head three times with a hammer.
The father and son then allegedly took Sofia’s body back to the main road and damaged the motorcycle to make the incident appear like a collision caused by a speeding vehicle.
Habil subsequently approached the authorities and claimed that a speeding vehicle had hit their motorcycle from behind near the Gheljipura intersection. He alleged that Sofia had suffered severe head injuries in the crash, while he sustained bruises.
Sofia Dies During Treatment
Following the accident, Sofia was taken to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment.
She succumbed to her injuries the following day.
As the police investigated the reported hit-and-run, details surrounding the incident raised suspicion and eventually led investigators to the alleged involvement of Sofia’s father and brother.
Video Reportedly Led To ‘Honour’ Killing Plot
The investigation found that Sofia’s father and brother allegedly harboured deep resentment towards her after a video involving Sofia and a man went viral around three months ago.
Police said the family feared social humiliation and allegedly conspired to kill Sofia in what investigators have described as an ‘honour’ killing.
Hammer Hidden Before Murder
According to police, Habil concealed an iron hammer inside his trousers before leaving with Sofia and their father.
Investigators allege that the father and son then carried out the murder and staged the scene to make it appear that Sofia had died in a road accident.
Both accused have been taken into custody and are facing murder charges.
