A man allegedly set a Nagpur pub on fire after he was stopped from carrying a packet of gutkha inside, with police saying he felt humiliated as the incident took place in front of his friends.
The fire erupted at The Cafe Barrel in Shivaji Nagar in the early hours of Sunday. Police said on Wednesday that their investigation had revealed that the blaze was deliberately started.
The accused has been identified as 31-year-old Mohanlal Tiwari. According to officials, Tiwari had visited the pub on Saturday evening. A chef who has worked in 10 countries, Tiwari now runs Samota, a restaurant in Nagpur’s Jayaprakash Nagar.

Tiwari allegedly returned to the pub later that night, poured petrol around the premises and set the establishment on fire.
