The festival of Janmashtami was celebrated with religious enthusiasm in Meerut’s Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail on Friday. The jail administration was busy preparing for the festival for many days. The jail premises were decorated with tents, lighting and other decorative items. An attractive tableau of the birth of Lord Shri Krishna was prepared, while Laddu Gopal was also specially decorated.
According to the jail administration, at present four female prisoners and their four small children are living in the jail. On Janmashtami, all these children were dressed as Radha-Krishna. New dresses were also provided to the children and they were made to sit near the tableau of Lord Krishna. Due to this, the atmosphere of the birth celebration organized in the women’s barrack became even more special.

These four children also include the eight-month-old daughter of Bandi Muskaan, who came into limelight due to the ‘Blue Drum Massacre’. This girl, born in jail itself, was decorated as Radha on the occasion of Janmashtami. The girl in new dress was made to sit near the tableau. During this period, the jail administration took special care of the children’s convenience and their participation in the program.
Special tableau decorated in jail, campus echoed with puja and hymns
On the occasion of Janmashtami, prayers and other religious programs along with prayers were organized in the jail premises. A special event took place at the time of the birth of Lord Shri Krishna. After this, Prasad was distributed among the prisoners and other devotees. Separate special arrangements were made by the jail administration for the prisoners observing fast.
Krishna’s birth anniversary was also celebrated by decorating a separate tableau in the women’s barrack. The jail administration had decorated the entire premises as per the festival. Special worship of Laddu Gopal was done with arrangements of tents and lights. During the religious event, the prisoners participated with devotion and celebrated the festival of Janmashtami together.
Jailer Harbans Pandey told that Lord Krishna was born in jail, hence Janmashtami is considered to have special significance in jails. for this reason Meerut This festival was celebrated with full devotion and enthusiasm in the jail also. According to Harbans Pandey, Muskan’s daughter is about eight months old and was born in jail itself. The girl was dressed as Radha on Janmashtami. The jail administration also gave her a new dress. In the program organized in the women’s barrack, all the four children including the girl were made to sit near the tableau.
The jailer said that prisoners of all religions celebrate their festivals with mutual harmony in the jail. Even on the occasion of Janmashtami, arrangements were made for Prasad for all the prisoners. The purpose of the religious event was also to provide a positive and collective atmosphere to the prisoners during the festival.
In this way, the celebration of Janmashtami in Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail of Meerut concluded with puja, bhajan, tableau and distribution of Prasad.
