Pakistan has termed the reports of demolition of nearly 100 years old Hindu temple in Punjab province as false. He says that due to heavy rain on July 21, the temple got damaged and collapsed.
At the same time, local people and representatives of the Hindu community allege that the temple was deliberately demolished and an attempt was made to use its land for a nearby madrassa.
On the other hand, reports claim that the temple building was demolished on August 21. There is a difference of about a month between the two dates. For this reason, questions are being raised regarding the incident of demolition of the temple.
TLP accused of demolishing temple
Pakistan Masih Millat Party (PMMP), local people and Hindu community had alleged that the temple was demolished by some people from the local Muslim community.
These people have also alleged the role of people associated with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in this case. TLP is a radical Islamic organization of Pakistan, which is banned there.
India condemned the demolition of the temple
After the matter came to light, India’s External Affairs Ministry had condemned it on September 2. India had said that local authorities did not take timely action to protect the temple, which is a matter of concern.
The Foreign Ministry had said that this incident raises questions on the security situation of minorities in Pakistan.
India had demanded Pakistan to take action against those responsible for the demolition of the temple and restore the temple.
Pakistan said – presented the facts distorted
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reacted after India’s statement. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan described India’s allegations as false and made for political purposes. He said that India is distorting the facts in this matter.
Khan quoted officials of Pakistan’s local Evacuee Trust Property Board as saying that the temple building was damaged due to heavy rains.
A statement was issued by the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.
Pakistan will get the temple repaired
Pakistan also claims that local authorities have surveyed the damage caused to the temple and steps have been initiated to restore the temple.
