All this started with Japanese Defence Minister Shinji Rokoiz’s visit to India.

His camaraderie with the Indian Defence Minister was a delight to watch. When Rajnath Singh wished him hello in Japanese, the Japanese Defence Minister’s expression said it all. Rajnath Singh’s namaste in Japanese, “Konichiwa Arigato”, got an instant reply in Namaste by the Japanese Defence Minister. This was a hit on social media.

The story was not finished yet. It erupted on social media again when Belgian Defence Minister Franken Theo was visiting India. The Belgian Defence Minister landed in Delhi directly from his Japan visit.

The Japanese Defence Minister Shinji Rokoiz, in his interaction with his Belgian counterpart, not only spoke highly about Rajnath Singh but sent him warm regards for Rajnath Singh as well. Franken Theo conveyed this message to Rajnath in the bilateral meet.

The social media diplomacy was at its best here.

An elated Rajnath Singh again, in his X post, thanked the Japanese Defence Minister for his warm wishes. Rajnath Singh wrote that, “Thank you for the warm regards, my Friend Shinji Rokoiz. The message was well received and duly reciprocated during Belgian Minister Francken Theo’s highly productive visit to India. Looking forward to further strengthening our deep-rooted partnership during my next visit to Japan.”

Rajnath Singh’s message on social media platforms again found mention when Japanese Defence Minister Shinji Rokoiz reacted on X post and Instagram reels.

Shinji wrote, “When I met Belgian Defence Minister Franken in Japan, I told him to please give my best regards to Minister Singh if he went to India. As a result, he ended up using the part where Minister Singh’s account mentioned me. This is also a product of the exchange between the Ministers. Minister Franken and Minister Singh, Thank you very much.”

As PM Modi urged the Ministers and party cadres to use social media platforms more aggressively to push their side of the story, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh’s initiative has proved that social media diplomacy works for the country as well.
