ISRO EOS-05 Launch Live Updates: India is preparing for an important space mission as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) gets ready to send EOS-05 into space early on September 4.
The Earth-observation satellite will travel much farther from the planet than most imaging satellites, eventually operating nearly 36,000 km above the equator.
The mission is also notable because EOS-05 is designed to observe the same large part of Earth repeatedly from geosynchronous orbit.
This could give India a new way to track changing weather and environmental conditions over the region. The satellite will first be released into a lower transfer orbit by the GSLV-F17 before using its own propulsion system to reach its intended position. The rocket is scheduled to lift off at 2:55 AM IST from Sriharikota.
GSLV-F17 will take EOS-05 into space, and EOS-05 will then use its own engines to reach a high orbit from where it can repeatedly monitor large parts of Earth.
