Vivek Oberoi was born on 3 September 1976.
Actor Vivek Oberoi, who has played many types of characters from hero to villain in his career, has turned 50 today. However, his film journey was not easy from the beginning. He had struggled before coming into films. He even assisted filmmaker Farah Khan. During this time, he used to clean the rehearsal room and also bring tea for the dancers.
While talking to Mashable India, Vivek had told that he kept assisting Farah Khan for a long time for training. He had said, “I started by cleaning the rehearsal room and bringing tea for all the dancers and then moved on.”
Vivek had also told that he never told anyone who his father was. Actually, Vivek is the son of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi. Despite this, he did not try to get work by taking help of his father’s identity.
Suresh Oberoi has worked in many films like Laawaris (1981), Namak Halal (1982), Mirch Masala (1987), and Mr. India (1987).
Got a big break from ‘Company’ in 2002
Vivek Oberoi got a chance to debut in Bollywood in 2002 with Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Company’. The film was based on the underworld of Mumbai. In this, Vivek played the role of Chandu.
Vivek’s acting in ‘Company’ was greatly appreciated. With the success of the film, he became increasingly recognized in the industry. He received the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his debut.
Vivek Oberoi also received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film ‘Company’.
After this, in the year 2002 itself, he appeared in ‘Road’ and ‘Saathiya’. His pairing with Rani Mukherjee was especially liked in ‘Saathiya’. The film was successful and Vivek received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Vivek did not only play hero roles in his career. He left his mark in negative characters also. In 2006, he played the role of Keshu in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film ‘Omkara’.
After this, she played the role of gangster Maya Dolas in ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ released in 2007. There was a lot of discussion about Vivek’s look and acting in this role. He also received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Villain Award for this role.
Played a powerful role in ‘Rakta Charitra’
In 2010, Vivek played the role of Paritala Ravi in Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Rakta Charitra’. It was a serious and challenging role. His acting in the film was highly appreciated.
After this, in 2013, Vivek was seen in ‘Krrish 3’. He played the character of supervillain Kaal in the film. Vivek’s performance in this film starring Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut was also in the news. He received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for the film.
Vivek Oberoi married Priyanka Alva on 29 October 2010. Priyanka is the daughter of former Karnataka minister Jeevraj Alva. The couple has two children, son Vivaan and daughter Ameya.
Made a mark in South films also
Apart from Hindi films, Vivek also worked in South films. In 2017, he debuted with the Tamil film ‘Vivegam’. After this, in 2019 he appeared in the Malayalam film ‘Lucifer’. In this film he played the role of villain Bobby. His character in the Mohanlal starrer film was liked by the audience.
Vivek also worked in Telugu films. He played an important role in ‘Vinay Vidheya Rama’. In 2022, he also appeared in the Malayalam film ‘Kaduva’.
Vivek Oberoi is the owner of ‘Karma Infrastructure’, a company related to construction and infrastructure sector. He has invested in more than 29 startup companies from various sectors like edtech, jewelery and healthcare.
Along with acting, he also ventured into production.
Apart from acting, Vivek also tried his hand in film production. In the year 2011, he produced the film ‘Dekh Indian Circus’. This film also received appreciation at the International Film Festival. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the Busan International Film Festival in 2011.
Vivek also worked on TV. He appeared as a judge in the reality show ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’. Apart from this, he played the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the film ‘PM Narendra Modi’.
The film ‘PM Narendra Modi’ was released in theaters on 24 May 2019.
Now Vivek Oberoi will soon be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s film ‘Ramayana Part 1’. The film will be released in theaters in India on 8 November 2026 (Diwali).
In the film, he is playing the character of Vidyutjihva, husband of Ravana’s sister Shurpanakha. Initially there was talk of him becoming Vibhishan. However, after the trailer his character became clear.
A war scene between Vivek and Ravana will also be seen in the film. The special thing is that Vivek has decided to donate his entire fee from the film for the treatment of children suffering from cancer.
