Delhi Police has issued an urgent traffic advisory ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, which India will host in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan.
The advisory has been issued in view of a Motor Carcade Rehearsal on September 3, during which traffic diversions and regulated movement will be implemented across key routes in Delhi from 3 pm to 8 pm.
According to the Delhi Police advisory, commuters have been asked to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, use public transport, especially the Metro, and follow designated diversion routes and instructions from traffic personnel.
Over 35 roads to be regulated
The traffic advisory lists 22 diversion points and says over 35 roads will be regulated during the rehearsal.
The affected roads include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Attaturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam. Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
Key diversion points and alternate routes
At Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk (W-Point), Mathura Road and Tilak Marg will not be allowed. East/South Delhi traffic will be diverted via BSZ Marg and IP Marg; Centre/North/West Delhi traffic via BSZ Marg and Delhi Gate; and New Delhi/CP traffic via Sikandara Road.
At Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk (A-Point), commercial vehicles beyond the chowk towards W-Point will not be allowed. Routes include IP Marg for East/South Delhi, DDU Marg for New Delhi/CP and BSZ Marg-Delhi Gate for Centre/North/West Delhi.
At Mir Dard Chowk, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg will be restricted. Diversions include Mir Dard Marg-Abdul Gaffar Marg-DDU Marg and Mir Dard Marg-Kotla Marg-BSZ Marg/DDU Marg.
At Kasturba Gandhi Marg/Outer Circle CP, traffic towards C-Hexagon and Outer Circle CP will be restricted, with New Delhi/South Delhi traffic using the Outer Circle and other arterial roads except Janpath.
At Janpath/Connaught Place, traffic towards C-Hexagon from Outer Circle CP will be restricted. Diversions include Outer Circle and, for Centre/North/West/East Delhi, Kali Bari, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Panchkuiyan, Minto and Barakhamba Roads.
At Patel Chowk, traffic towards Windsor Place and RBI on Sansad Marg will be restricted, with diversions via Ashoka Road-GPO or Sansad Marg-CP.
At RML Hospital roundabout, traffic towards Mother Teresa Crescent and Talkatora Road will be diverted via Sheikh Mujibur Rehman Marg or Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
At Vande Matram Marg/Simon Bollivar Marg, Simon Bollivar Marg will be restricted. South Delhi traffic will use Vande Matram Marg-Dhaula Kuan, while New Delhi/East/North/West/Centre Delhi traffic will use Vande Matram Marg-Karol Bagh.
Dhaula Kuan to Mandi House
At Dhaula Kuan Flyover, routes include Ring Road on both sides, Vande Matram Marg and NH-48/Gurgaon Road for IGI Airport and Gurgaon.
Restrictions at Moti Bagh Flyover will affect Shanti Path, with diversions via Ring Road or Rao Tula Ram Marg.
Other restrictions cover Roundabout, Brig Hoshiar Singh Marg; Madarsa T-Point; Lodhi Road/Amrita Shergil Marg; Lodhi Road/Max Mueller Marg; Lodhi Road/Maharishi Raman Marg; Lodhi Road/Arch Bishop Macarius Marg; Under Lodhi Flyover; Neela Gumbad; Under Oberoi Flyover; U-turn opposite DPS, Mathura Road; Ring Road/Bhairon Road; and Mandi House.
Routes include Lodhi Road, Safdarjung Flyover, Bhikaji Cama Flyover, Bhishm Pitamah Marg, Barapullah Flyover, Madarsa/Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Barakhamba Road and Sikandra Marg.
Vehicles bound for Oberoi Hotel and Golf Link will be permitted at Under Oberoi Flyover.
