Police said the killing was allegedly triggered by a song linked to the 2021 courtroom murder of gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi in Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna issued a warning to criminals operating from outside the state, saying they would not be allowed to use Uttar Pradesh as a safe haven, as police revealed a suspected Gogi gang link in the killing of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan.
“Criminals sitting outside Uttar Pradesh should not think they will escape,” the DGP said at a press conference in Lucknow, adding, “We will not allow Uttar Pradesh to become a safe haven for any criminal or gang.”
The warning came days after Ankit Baliyan was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli on August 26. Police said the killing was allegedly triggered by a song linked to the 2021 courtroom murder of gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi in Delhi.
According to Shamli Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh, members of Gogi’s gang had taken offence to a song in which Ankit Baliyan appeared. The song included the line, “Court mein goli maarenge meri jaan… judge ke paseene aayenge” (will shoot you in court, leaving even the judge sweating), and was allegedly associated with Gogi’s murder inside Delhi’s Rohini court complex.
Police said Gogi gang members had threatened Ankit Baliyan and asked him not to release or promote the song, claiming it dishonoured them. Ankit Baliyan had maintained that he had only acted in the song and had not written it.
The song was subsequently perceived as supporting Gogi’s rival Tillu Tajpuria, who was alive at the time. Police said the fact that Tajpuria and Ankit Baliyan belonged to the same Baliyan gotra also contributed to the gang’s perception that the song was intended as an insult.
“Although the matter was clarified later, they had still been after him ever since. They got an opportunity on August 26 and carried out the murder,” SP Singh said.
Two alleged shooters, identified as Mohit, 22, and Sumit, 24, both from Haryana’s Sonipat district, were killed in a police encounter in Shamli early Monday. Police said they opened fire when intercepted during a checking operation.
The DGP said 11 police officers had been deployed to crack the Ankit Baliyan murder case. The investigation found that Ankit Baliyan had been surveilled before the killing and that weapons had been supplied to the attackers from outside Uttar Pradesh.
Police have identified Rahul alias Bhola, a Sonipat resident, as the alleged mastermind. He is accused of coordinating the operation through Snapchat and is wanted in Haryana.
The two suspected shooters had allegedly arrived in Shamli on August 20 and stayed at a local hotel. Police examined CCTV footage and identification documents from the hotel as part of the investigation.
