Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old Class 11 student inside a sleeper bus in Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area, police said.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of August 4. The accused have been identified as bus driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep. Police have also seized the sleeper bus allegedly used in the crime and sent it for forensic examination.
According to police sources, the victim is from Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh and had left her home without informing her family following a disagreement. She was travelling to Noida to meet her cousin.
The student reportedly got off at Pari Chowk by mistake amid heavy rain and darkness. Around that time, an empty sleeper bus approached the area. The student allegedly signalled the bus to stop after being told by the driver and conductor that they were travelling towards Noida Sector-63.
Police sources said the conductor allegedly began making obscene advances towards the student soon after the bus started moving.
According to the victim’s statement, both the driver and conductor subsequently raped her and threatened to kill her when she resisted. The accused allegedly abandoned her on Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal late at night before fleeing.
The shaken student then approached Kashmere Gate police and reported the incident. Following the investigation, police arrested the two accused from a bus parking area in Timarpur.
Bus Taken For Repairs Before Incident
Police sources said the bus had earlier broken down and was taken to a workshop in Surajpur for repairs. After the work was completed, the driver and conductor were reportedly taking the empty bus to Timarpur when they encountered the student at Pari Chowk.
The bus travelled around 47 kilometres from Pari Chowk to Kashmere Gate. Police sources said the sleeper bus had curtains, which meant that people outside the vehicle could not see what was happening inside.
