America has attacked Iran after about a month.
The US military on Sunday targeted two rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak Island. This is the first American attack on Iran since July. The US Army said that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards soldiers were preparing to launch rockets and sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, when the US Army took action.
Iran’s semi-official media reported that explosions were heard near Larak Island. According to Iranian media, America attacked the island with drones. The Iranian army said that many of its soldiers and civilians were killed in the attack. Many are injured. Iran has warned to respond to the attack and punish those responsible.
US Army had recently removed landmines
Last week, the US military completed the removal of sea mines from the international shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump also said that all the mines in international waters have been removed or deactivated.
Trump had warned that if any ship or boat tried to lay new sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, it would be destroyed. According to the American official, the activities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were being monitored.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz important for the world?
The Strait of Hormuz is the major sea route between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. A large part of the world’s oil and gas trade passes through this route. Before the conflict, about one-fifth of the oil used in the world traveled through this route.
This is the reason why increasing tension in Hormuz or stopping the movement of ships can have a direct impact on the supply and prices of crude oil. For this reason, the increasing military activity between America and Iran is being considered serious at the international level.
America-Israel-Iran war continues since February
America and Israel attacked Iran on 28 February. In response, Iran attacked Israel and the Gulf countries where American military bases are present. The conflict has now gone on for more than six months and the situation has remained at a standstill in recent weeks.
Apart from the attacks by America and Israel, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have also caused huge losses. Thousands of people have died and lakhs of people have been displaced in these attacks. So far 18 American soldiers are known to have been killed in the conflict.
Trump has declared Hormuz as American territory
US President Trump has described the Strait of Hormuz as ‘New US Territory’. On August 18, he spoke for the first time about American control over Hormuz.
After this, on August 23, he again shared such a picture on Truth Social, in which Hormuz was shown as American territory.
Hormuz divided into two paths after the war
Before the war started, Hormuz was considered the only sea route. Ships used to pass through fixed routes. Their route was decided by looking at the port, the settlement of the ship and the safety. But after the tension between America and Iran increased, there was talk of two different paths.
Iranian way: It is near the coast of Iran in the northern part of Hormuz. It passes close to Larak and Qishm islands and goes to Iran’s ports and oil terminals.
Omani way: It is in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, close to Oman and off the coast of Iran. America insists on ships passing through this route. Many commercial ships operating under the protection of the US Navy also use this route.
