Traffic was diverted on a 24-km stretch of Samruddhi Expressway after a gas pipeline leaked in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra. According to officials, gas leakage was reported from GAIL’s pipeline near Takliwadi in Gangapur tehsil around 5 pm on Saturday evening. As a precautionary measure, fire brigade equipment was deployed at the accident site and GAIL experts were called to the spot. Traffic from Chainage 447 to 470 between Hadas Pimpalgaon and Maliwada has been diverted towards Dhule-Solapur Highway. Mumbai bound vehicles are leaving Hadas Pimpalgaon Interchange and re-entering the expressway from Maliwada via Dhule-Solapur Highway. At the same time, vehicles going to Nagpur are coming out of Maliwada and reaching back to the expressway at Hadas Pimpalgaon through this route. GAIL experts have closed valves on both sides of the affected section of the pipeline. Due to this the pressure inside the pipeline is gradually decreasing. Senior officials of the district administration and police are keeping an eye on the situation and efforts are being made to normalize the traffic soon.
