India lost to Belgium in the penalty shootout in the Men’s Hockey World Cup on Friday. With this the team stood eighth in the tournament.
Belgium was leading 3-2 till the last minute of the match. There were 26 seconds left for the match to end when India got a penalty corner. Captain Harmanpreet Singh converted it into a goal and took the match to a shootout, where the team lost the match 3-4.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored 2 goals in this match. He was India’s top scorer in the tournament with 8 goals.
India’s first goal, then Belgium’s comeback
Abhishek scored in the sixth minute to give India an early 1-0 lead. However, Belgium made a brilliant comeback by scoring two goals in the 22nd and 23rd minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
Immediately after half time, in the 31st minute, captain Harmanpreet scored a goal from the penalty corner and leveled the score at 2-2. After this, in the 47th minute, De Kerpel of Belgium scored a goal to make the score 3-2.

Harmanpreet could not score a goal in the shootout

Manpreet Singh was hit by a ball in the eye
