Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has arrived in the United States for a six-day visit during which she will attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting and engage with business leaders on investment opportunities in India.
Sitharaman reached Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Thursday after a three-day visit to Canada. She was received by Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Namgya C Khampa and India’s Consul General in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh.
Chicago Visit To Focus On Investment
During her stay in Chicago, Sitharaman will participate in a roundtable with investors and senior representatives of the private sector. The discussions will focus on India’s investment opportunities, economic outlook and ways to strengthen business ties between India and the US.
She will also visit the Polsky Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago to discuss entrepreneurship, innovation, technology commercialisation and links between India’s startup ecosystem and global markets.
Sitharaman is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community in Chicago.
G20, New York Engagements
The minister will lead the Indian delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, on August 31 and September 1. The meeting, hosted under the US presidency, will discuss global economic growth, financial stability and international economic cooperation.
Sitharaman will then travel to New York for an investor roundtable with senior executives from leading companies. She is also scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with financial sector leaders on investment opportunities and stronger economic and institutional ties between India and the US.
During her New York visit, Nasdaq will host Sitharaman for a bell-ringing ceremony, providing an opportunity to highlight developments in technology-driven financial markets.
Her US visit is part of a nine-day Canada-US tour that began on August 25 and is scheduled to conclude on September 2. In Canada, she attended the first India-Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue and held discussions with investors and businesses in sectors including energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals.
