Amid tensions between America and Russia, a large military plane of the US Air Force suddenly landed in Moscow on Tuesday. This landing of C-17A Globemaster III is considered unusual because it is not common for American military planes to arrive in the Russian capital.

This plane had reached Riga from Joint Base Andrews near Washington DC. This is the same US military base that houses the President’s fleet of aircraft, which also includes Air Force One. After this, the same C-17 flew from Riga and reached the capital of Russia. Most of the questions are being raised about who was on the plane and why was he sent to Moscow?

The video of C-17 landing in Moscow is viral on social media…

American military plane reached Moscow from Riga

According to flight-tracking monitors, the plane took off from the Latvian capital Riga at about 8:50 a.m. Moscow time and reached Moscow about 74 minutes later.

Another special thing about this flight was that the plane reached Moscow via Russian airspace. Approval from Russian authorities is required for any American military plane to fly through this route.

Suspense still on the mission of the plane

According to records, the same plane had reached Riga from Joint Base Andrews on August 23. But both America and Russia have not yet told why it was sent to Moscow.

Information about who was on the plane and what luggage was inside it has not been revealed.

After the unusual landing, many speculations began among plane watchers and social media users. Some people linked it to an exchange of prisoners, some secret talks regarding the Ukraine war, or work related to the US Embassy.

However, none of these claims have been confirmed. Therefore, at present it is not clear what was the real reason behind sending the American C-17 to Moscow.

Don’t know yet what was in the plane

This Moscow-bound plane was flying with the name RCH4555. Public flight data reveals its movement, but does not provide information about the people or luggage on board.

This is the reason why this flight has attracted so much attention in this period of tension between Russia and America. At present, things like exchange of prisoners, any special talks between Russia and America or work related to the American Embassy are just guesses.

Unless official information comes from America or Russia, the real reason for the plane reaching Moscow will not be revealed.

Where does the US Air Force use it?

The job of the C-17 is not just to deliver troops and military equipment. The US Air Force also uses it to transport troops and equipment, drop supplies from the air, evacuate injured people and provide relief in times of need.

This is not a fighter plane or bomber. Its main function is to rapidly transport heavy goods and military equipment from one place to another.

C-17 Globemaster: capable of carrying tanks and troops

The C-17A Globemaster III is a heavy military transport aircraft of the US Air Force. It is used to transport soldiers, military vehicles and heavy goods from one place to another.

The normal flying speed of this plane made by Boeing is about 834 kilometers per hour. Despite being such a big plane, C-17 can take off and land from about 3,500 feet long runway. One of its specialties is that it can move backwards with its own power.

India also has 11 C-17 Globemaster

India has 11 C-17 Globemaster planes. India had signed a deal worth about $4.1 billion to buy 10 C-17 Globemaster III from the US in 2011. The first plane reached India in June 2013 and delivery of the remaining 10 aircraft was completed by 2014.

After this, India got the 11th C-17 in 2019. The special thing is that this plane was already made and was kept with Boeing without any buyer. India achieved this by getting it prepared as per its needs.

All 11 C-17 Globemasters of India are part of the Indian Air Force’s 81 Squadron ‘Sky Lords’. The base of this unit is at Hindon Airbase.

Has shown strength from Yemen to Ladakh

Yemen, 2015: C-17 helped evacuate 2,096 people to India amid the war.

Sudan, 2023: It was used in a rescue mission that lasted for about 24 hours during the civil war. 192 people were evacuated in one mission.

Near China border: In 2018, C-17 landed at Tooting airstrip in Arunachal Pradesh. This place is about 30 kilometers away from the China border. The plane had reached there with about 18 tons of luggage.

Ladakh: C-17 has played an important role in rapidly transporting troops and heavy military equipment to high altitude areas.
