India men’s hockey team will face Argentina in their second Pool E match of the ongoing FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 on Monday (August 24). The fixture, scheduled to take place at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen at 6:15 PM IST, is a must-win for India as their chances of qualifying for the semifinals of the ongoing tournament in the Netherlands and Belgium depend on the result of this match.

India not only need to beat Argentina by a big margin (at least four goals) but will also have to hope for a favourable result in the other Pool E match between the Netherlands and England.

Ahead of the crucial fixture against Argentina, India are fourth in the Pool E points table with 0 points from two matches and a goal difference of -4. If India beat Argentina and fulfil the first condition, but the Netherlands fail to defeat England, India will be knocked out and England will become the second team from Pool E to qualify for the semifinals.

Argentina will qualify for the semifinals if they defeat India and England fail to beat the Netherlands. In case of a draw against India, Argentina will qualify only if England lose to the Netherlands.
