The constable, identified as Abhishek Kumar, had earlier been suspended after he was seen firing four rounds from his service AK-47 during the protests. Police said the weapon was fired into the air.

The AK-47 firing triggered criticism after a video of the incident emerged. The district administration subsequently said the constable had no orders to open fire and that he should not have taken such a weapon into the public gathering.
Bihar Police, however, said the constable fired to protect lives, public safety and government property, and maintained that no one was injured by the AK-47 firing.
