Former Union Education Minister and BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan received a heroic welcome from NDA leaders in Parliament on Monday, with party colleagues greeting him with slogans like “Dharmendra Pradhan Zindabad” and honours during his first appearance since resigning over the NEET paper leak controversy.

Several BJP and NDA MPs gathered at the Parliament’s Makar Dwar entrance ahead of Pradhan’s arrival. As he entered the Parliament complex, they raised slogans of “Dharmendra Pradhan Zindabad”, escorted him inside and presented him with a ceremonial cap, signalling the ruling alliance’s solidarity with the former minister.

On the other hand, opposition leaders led by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staged a protest inside the Parliament complex over the alleged use of excessive force against students during the students’ protests.

Raising slogans of “Shiksha Chori”, Opposition MPs demanded an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over what they described as police brutality against peaceful protesters.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress MPs KC Venugopal and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were among the Opposition leaders who participated in the protest outside Parliament.

The protesting MPs raised slogans demanding that Amit Shah respond to allegations of excessive police force during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest and sought the withdrawal of criminal cases registered against student protesters.

According to Opposition sources, parties have decided not to participate in discussions inside the House and will continue to press for accountability from the Union Home Minister over the alleged use of force against students.

Dharmendra Pradhan Resignation

Amid intensying students’ protest over protests over the NEET paper leak and irregularities in the education system, Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday tendered his resignation from the post of Education Minister.

In a social media post, Pradhan said he submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Modi, saying that he chose to step down to prevent “anti-national forces” from spreading confusion and taking advantage of the situation.

Pradhan’s resignation was the main demand of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been leading a massive protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for more than a month. The talks between the CJP and Centre were deadlocked over Pradhan’s resignation.
