The Indian Embassy in Tehran has asked citizens to “postpone travel to Iran”, advised those already there to “consider temporarily exiting.”

India has issued a fresh travel advisory asking Indian nationals to “postpone travel to Iran” amid escalating tensions between Iran and US.

In an official statement, the Indian embassy in Tehran said, “Indian nationals intending to travel to Iran for any purpose should postpone travel for the time being until the security environment improves.”

The embassy also advised Indians already in Iran to consider leaving the country.

“Indian nationals already in Iran should consider temporarily exiting Iran, using available flight options,” the advisory said.

For those who choose to remain in Iran, the embassy urged them to stay vigilant and closely monitor the security situation.

“Indian nationals who choose to remain in Iran should exercise the highest possible level of caution. They should carefully monitor the news to maintain full situational awareness and should avoid locations seeing higher levels of military activity such as those along the southern coast of the country,” the advisory stated.

The embassy also asked Indian nationals present in Iran who have not yet registered with it to do so immediately. Registered citizens have been advised to regularly monitor the embassy’s website and social media platforms for further updates.

The advisory comes amid renewed regional tensions and follows the embassy’s continued efforts to issue safety guidance for Indian citizens in Iran. Emergency contact numbers and an email helpline have also been shared for those requiring consular assistance.

The advisory comes as the US has launched fresh airstrikes on Iranian military targets after Iranian missile attacks killed US troops in Jordan, marking a major escalation in the conflict.

Iran has retaliated by launching missiles and drones towards US-linked targets in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, while regional tensions with Israel have also intensified.

Israel has warned it will respond with “full force” if Iran launches missiles towards Israeli territory, raising fears of a wider regional war.

Indian nationals in Iran are advised to exit the country using available means of transport. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged citizens to postpone travel to Iran and consider temporarily exiting.
