Two Punjabi youth died tragically by drowning in the Lasheen Canal of Montreal city, Canada. The deceased include Lovepreet Singh (26 years), resident of Tapa Mandi in Barnala district and another youth resident of Butala (Naurangpur) village of Amritsar. Lovepreet Singh’s parents have appealed for help from the Central Government, Punjab Government, social workers living abroad and the NRI community. He has demanded that administrative and financial assistance be provided to bring the mortal remains of his only son from Canada to Punjab, so that he can perform his last rites as per religious rituals. Both of them died due to drowning due to deep water. This accident happened when both the friends were present on the banks of Lasheen Canal in Montreal. It is being told that suddenly the foot of the youth resident of Amritsar slipped and he fell into the canal. In an attempt to save him, Lovepreet Singh also jumped into the water, but due to the strong current and deep water both of them died due to drowning. The rescue operation lasted for several hours. As soon as information about the incident was received, the Montreal Fire Department and police team reached the spot and started a large-scale rescue operation. After several hours of struggle, both the youths were pulled out of the water. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The police is investigating the matter The family of former soldier Balveer Singh, resident of Tapa Mandi, who had gone on work permit two and a half years ago, is deeply shocked by this incident. Deceased Lovepreet Singh was the only son of his parents. He had gone to Canada about two and a half years ago on a work permit and was working as a trolley driver in a company there. Sold land to send his son abroad: After passing 12th class, for the better future of his son, former CRPF jawan Balveer Singh sold two acres of his land and sent him to Canada. The family never thought that the mortal remains of the son they had sent abroad for a bright future would return. Lovepreet had talked to the family on phone about 10 days ago.
