Baba Barfani of Amarnath is made naturally, not carved.
The Ice Shivalinga of Amarnath is not made by carving a block of ice, rather it is a natural ice stalagmite. Just as in limestone caves, stalagmites are formed by the accumulation of minerals from the ground, similarly in Amarnath cave, the water dripping from the ceiling freezes and forms a Shivalinga of ice.
Its size varies every year according to season, temperature and water availability. This is its most unique feature.
