Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. There was an encounter. The encounter started at around 7:45 pm in Chanpora village, Saidpora Peen area of ​​Shopian district. According to police and army sources, security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving information that two terrorists were hiding in the area. Meanwhile, the terrorists started firing, after which the encounter started.

In retaliation, both the terrorists were killed. in this operation Jammu and Kashmir Special Operation Group (SOG) of police, joint teams of Army’s 44 RR, 20 RR, 55 RR, 34 RR, 3 Para and CRPF were involved. Initially, according to the information received from sources related to security forces, there was a possibility of terrorists Zakir Ganai and Latif Bhatt being trapped in the encounter. However, it has not been confirmed yet whether the two killed terrorists are Zakir and Latif.

CCTV footage and photographs of the terrorists were also revealed by the army, in which two terrorists were visible. Agencies are examining these footage to confirm whether the terrorists present at the encounter site were Zakir Ganai and Latif Bhatt or not. Zakir Ahmed Ganai is said to be a resident of Kulgam district of South Kashmir and he is a most wanted A++ category terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

He has been involved in many terrorist incidents and cases are registered against him. In October 2025, Kulgam NIA Court had also issued a public notice against him. During the investigation of Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025, Zakir Ganai’s name came up among the local terrorists. According to the investigating agencies, he has also been involved in attacks on security forces and incidents of target killing.
