A CCTV footage of the terrorists who are reported to have been killed has also surfaced.
Two Lashkar terrorists have been reported killed in the encounter going on since Saturday evening in Saidpora area of Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces have not confirmed this. However, according to some media reports, the two killed terrorists have been identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) top operative Zakir Ahmed Ghani (A++ category) and his associate Latif Bhat.
Security forces had received information from intelligence sources about the hiding of both the terrorists in Chhanpora area near Saidpora Payin in Shopian, South Kashmir. During the siege, when the security forces reached near the terrorists’ hideout, they opened heavy fire.
The encounter started at 7:45 pm on July 4. The joint operation has been conducted jointly by Kashmir Police SOG, 44 RR, 20 RR, 34 RR and 03 PARA.
At present the encounter and search operation has been stopped due to darkness. It will be started again in the morning. The bodies of the terrorists have not been recovered yet.

Army’s Victor Force took charge of the search operation
This operation was started on Friday afternoon, when these two terrorists were seen in the army camera installed in an orchard in Mimandar area of seven villages.
The Army’s specialized anti-terrorism unit, ‘Victor Force’, has deployed additional troops to block all possible escape routes through the dense trees of the garden and has also made arrangements for lighting the area.
During the summer months, dense vegetation provides natural cover, making surveillance difficult and trapped terrorists can take advantage of ‘blind spots’ to break through the cordon.
Claim in reports – Zakir was a resident of Kulgam
According to sources, Zakir Ahmed Ghani, a resident of Mutalham village in Kulgam, was tracked by security forces yesterday along with other terrorists in the districts of South Kashmir. Zakir’s name was also linked to many terrorist attacks related to Pakistan.
In October 2025, the NIA court had issued a notice against him and recently his name was also linked to the investigation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack of April 2026. After the Pahalgam attack, security agencies had released a list of 14 terrorists in Kashmir and their houses were also demolished.
According to security records, Zakir has been associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba since 2024, while Latif joined LeT last year.
