The Uttar Pradesh government will conduct the entrance examination for its free IAS-PCS Residential Coaching Scheme on Saturday, with 10,175 candidates set to appear for admission to seven government-run coaching centres across the state.
According to the Social Welfare Department, the coaching programme is aimed at students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to economically weaker sections who aspire to join the civil services.
Selected candidates will be admitted through a counselling process after the entrance examination. Regular classes for the 2026-27 academic session are scheduled to begin on August 1 and continue until May 31, 2027.
A total of 865 candidates will be selected for free residential coaching at seven centres across Uttar Pradesh. The government said 25 per cent of the seats have been reserved for candidates who qualify for admission through lateral entry after clearing the Preliminary Examination.
Officials said selected candidates will receive free accommodation, meals, books, study material and classroom coaching from experienced faculty members as part of the residential programme.
According to the government, the scheme aims to support meritorious students from disadvantaged communities by reducing the financial burden associated with preparing for competitive examinations such as the UPSC Civil Services Examination and the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) examinations.
The government said private coaching for civil services examinations often involves significant expenditure, making quality preparation difficult for many economically weaker aspirants. The residential coaching scheme is intended to improve access to competitive examination preparation for eligible students.
The Social Welfare Department said the initiative is also aimed at increasing the participation of candidates from disadvantaged sections in administrative services by providing academic support and residential facilities.
Social Welfare Director Sanjeev Singh said the scheme seeks to ensure that financial constraints do not become a barrier for deserving students preparing for civil services examinations.
