Jaipur’s 151-year-old Gandhinagar Railway Station is set to begin a new chapter as it undergoes a major transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The Rs 211 crore redevelopment project is now in its final phase after nearly three years of work.
The station is being upgraded with modern passenger facilities, smart technology and a heritage-inspired design that reflects Jaipur‘s Pink City identity.
Already known as India’s second all-women railway station for the past eight years, Gandhinagar Railway Station will continue to retain its unique identity while offering travellers a world-class experience.
HERITAGE DESIGN WITH MODERN FACILITIES
The station’s new main and secondary entrance buildings, both designed as G+2 structures, are almost complete, with finishing work currently underway.
Connecting the two buildings will be a 72-metre-wide air concourse spread across nearly 2,700 square metres. This will serve as the station’s main passenger hub.
The air concourse will include two centrally air-conditioned seating areas, a paid lounge and a free waiting area, ensuring comfortable spaces for all travellers. A shopping complex, cafeteria, game zone and other commercial facilities are also being developed.
BETTER COMFORT AND SECURITY FOR PASSENGERS
To improve accessibility, the station will have eight lifts, four escalators and facilities designed for passengers with disabilities.
Security has also been upgraded. A total of 217 high-resolution CCTV cameras have been installed across the station, along with a modern fire safety system featuring fire hoses, automatic sprinklers and fire alarms to respond quickly during emergencies.
PARKING AND GREEN FEATURES
The redevelopment also includes a two-level basement parking facility covering more than 7,000 square metres for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Around 6,000 square metres of new platform shelters have also been built to improve passenger comfort.
The station is also focusing on sustainability. A 1,376-kilowatt solar power plant has been installed to reduce energy consumption.
Other eco-friendly features include rainwater harvesting, scientific waste management and energy-efficient systems. Thanks to these measures, the project has received a Platinum Green Building rating.
A STATION INSPIRED BY JAIPUR’S HERITAGE
One of the biggest highlights of the redevelopment is its architecture. The station has been designed around Jaipur’s famous Pink City heritage theme, with elements inspired by local art and culture.
The idea is to give visitors a glimpse of Rajasthan’s rich architectural identity the moment they arrive, while offering all the comforts of a modern railway station.
