Indian-origin American Democratic MP Ro Khanna has said that due to the policies of President Donald Trump, relations between India and America have reached the worst stage in the last 30 years. Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit 2026 held in Washington, he said that Trump’s tariff policy, war with Iran and taking decisions without consulting allies have damaged America’s credibility. He alleged that America took military action on Iran without talking to its allies like India, Europe and Canada. Such decisions have weakened the confidence of our ally countries. Khanna said – A generation of trust has ended due to tariffs. Ro Khanna also called Trump’s tariff policy wrong. He claimed that during his recent visit to China he met an Indian ambassador. According to Khanna, the ambassador told him, “An entire generation of trust has been lost because of your president.” He said that if the damage caused by Trump’s policies is not acknowledged, it would be like turning away from the truth. Describing Trump as a ‘lame duck’ president, Ro Khanna claimed that the Democratic Party will gain majority in the House of Representatives in the next mid-term elections and will also win the 2028 presidential election. He said that the new generation will have to strengthen its relations not only with America but also with the countries of the world. Referring to former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he said that he believed in working together with the countries of the world and also supported India’s independence movement. US Ambassador said – Wants to work together with India. In the program, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore has said that America wants to work shoulder to shoulder with India and fully accepts India’s growing power in the world. Gore said, “We are very close to completing another major agreement with India. The proposed trade agreement has reached the final stages.” Gore said that he had met an Indian minister in New Delhi a few weeks ago. The minister told him, no matter what appears in the news, India and America will remain friends even after 50 years. America is the oldest democracy in the world and India is the largest democracy. Gore also narrated an anecdote about the friendship between Modi and Trump. Gore also narrated an anecdote about the friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump. He told that a few months ago, Trump wanted to call PM Modi at 6 am (Indian time) only. Gore reported that he sat backstage with Trump during a UFC event in Miami. Then Trump said, “Let’s call Prime Minister Modi.” When Gore pointed out that it was 6 a.m. in India, Trump replied, “He must be up. He’s like me, he doesn’t sleep.” However, Trump was to take the stage later, so the conversation between the two leaders was scheduled for the next day. Gore said that this shows that Trump considers Prime Minister Modi as his close friend. He said, “When someone is your friend, every conversation does not have to be planned in advance. You can call directly and ask how they are.” He said that Trump respects India and looks at Prime Minister Modi differently from many other world leaders. According to Gore, this trust between the two leaders also strengthens India-US relations.
