Canada edged out South Africa in the first Round of 32 clash in the FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Los Angeles Stadium in California, USA on Sunday as a late Stephen Eustaquio proved to be the difference between the sides as Les Rouges moves into the last 16 for the first time in their history t the cost of Bafana Bafana.

Eustaquio’s stoppage time winner helped Canada move past Bafana Bafana and punch their ticket in the Round of 16 of the quadrennial spectacle.

Canada mounted attack after attack early in the fixture as they looked to assert their dominance, but eh South African remained efficiently organised at the back to ward off every puzzle thrown their way as the sides headed into the halt time break with nothing to separate them.

The South African unit remained resolute for the majority of the game as the fixture demanded a moment of magic to decide the winner and Eustaquio, who last netted for Les Rouges nearly thirty months ago, put his hand up with a strike past the diving RSA custodian, who had been exceptional throughout the night much like his defensive unit, to take Jessie Marsch’s and Co. into uncharted territory with a Ro16 ticket.
