Thieves entered the house of retired judge Giribala Singh, accused in the death case of actress-model Twisha Sharma. They tried to steal a file of some documents related to Giribala and his son Samarth Singh along with gold jewellery. However, due to the arrival of the police, the thieves had to leave the goods and run away. The theft and seizure of goods has been confirmed by ACP Rajneesh Kashyap. Giribala’s brother was present in the house at the time of the incident. He told that the thieves entered the house from the back side on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, hence they were not even aware of the theft. Meanwhile, the police patrolling the area reached near the house. As soon as they heard the siren of their car, the miscreants got scared and ran away leaving their belongings. The policemen also chased them but they managed to dodge. Police examined CCTV footage of the area. On the basis of suspicious activities seen in these, two people were taken into custody on Sunday. He is being interrogated. Giribala and Samarth are in judicial custody till June 30. Husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, accused in the Twisha death case, are in judicial custody till June 30. Earlier on June 16, both the accused were presented before the court through video conferencing. During this, Giribala Singh had told the court that in the Hindi and English newspapers being given to him in jail, the news related to his case is cut out and separated. They should be given the entire newspaper to read. Also, the time limit of 20 minutes fixed for meeting lawyers should be abolished. Given the nature of the case, more time is required for legal advice. Giribala had also demanded that he be allowed to meet his lawyers at the same time as his son Samarth Singh. This will enable better coordination on legal strategy. During the hearing, Giribala and Samarth had demanded investigation related to Twisha’s bank account, expenses of Rs 7 lakh, mobile tower location and car keys. Giribala Singh had also sought a memo of seizure of Twisha’s medicines. Giribala Singh had expressed his objection before the court and said that Twisha’s family and relatives are continuously giving statements in the media. Necessary instructions should be issued in this regard and they should be asked to avoid making public statements. Twisha’s medicines were seized during the investigation, but the copy of the seizure panchanama (memo) was not given to Giribala or Samarth’s lawyers. This should be provided. During the hearing, Giribala Singh had also asked for a copy of the application for extension of judicial custody presented by the CBI. These were given to his lawyers on the orders of the court. Questions were raised on the lawyers appointed during Giribala’s tenure. Earlier on June 12, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma had sent a complaint to Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (MPSLSA) raising questions on the role of lawyers associated with the legal aid system. He had alleged that some lawyers associated with Legal Aid, appointed to provide free legal aid to economically weaker people, were active in favor of Giribala and Samarth. He was appointed at the time when Giribala Singh was the District and Sessions Judge in Bhopal. Navnidhi Sharma also sent a photo along with the complaint, in which Shreyas Saxena, an assistant advocate associated with the Legal Aid Defense Council Scheme, is seen dancing at the wedding of Samarth Singh. The complaint claims that even during the hearing of the anticipatory bail petition on May 15, he was present in the court along with the personal lawyer of the accused party. Demand for investigation of Chief Legal Aid Defense Council: Chief Legal Aid Defense Council Reena Verma has also been mentioned in the complaint. It is alleged that on June 2, when the accused were produced in the court by the CBI, they presented the Vakalatnama. The complainant says that when the accused party already had a private advocate, then the active role of the lawyers associated with Legal Aid should be investigated. Navnidhi Sharma alleges that two legal aid lawyers appointed during the tenure of Giribala Singh later appeared with the accused in the case related to them. It has been said in the complaint that if the members associated with the Legal Aid Panel were advocating for the private party, then an independent investigation should be conducted.
