Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday warned that any attempt to challenge or bypass the arrangements agreed under the signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the US for the Strait of Hormuz would only fuel tensions and delay the strategic waterway’s full reopening.
Speaking during a visit to Baghdad, Araghchi urged all parties to respect the signed MoU, saying any attempt to introduce alternative transit arrangements would complicate the situation.
The Iranian top diplomat’s warning came after the US military said it carried out strikes on Saturday on multiple targets in Iran, in response to a fresh attack on a ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran responded with strikes against US bases in the Gulf.

Warning against ‘new arrangements’
“Any interference in this matter, or any attempt to establish new or separate arrangements from those currently being implemented by the Islamic Republic of Iran, will only complicate the situation, delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and increase tensions,” he said.
Araghchi added that recent incidents in the Strait over the past two nights had already contributed to rising tensions and confrontations in the region. He called on all parties not to interfere in Iran’s management of the waterway or the ongoing efforts to restore normal operations.
“They should abide by the signed memorandum of understanding and not allow it to deviate from its intended course,” he added.
Hormuz To Resume ‘Pre-War Operating Capacity’ In 30 Days
Araghchi also said the Strait of Hormuz would return to its “pre-war operating capacity” within 30 days under the memorandum of understanding agreed between Iran and the US.
“Under the memorandum of understanding, the Strait of Hormuz will return to its pre-war operating capacity within 30 days under the management adopted by Iran and after the obstacles are removed by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the reopening process would be managed exclusively by Tehran, adding that no other country or organisation had any role in overseeing the arrangements.
“These arrangements are currently being implemented, and responsibility for them rests solely with the Islamic Republic of Iran. No other institution or country bears responsibility in this regard,” Araghchi added.
