Amazon founder Jeff Bezos believes that AI will create new jobs instead of eliminating jobs. He said that this technology will increase the pace of innovation, which may lead to labor shortage instead of unemployment in future. Apart from this, he also said that lack of water can stop the pace of Artificial Intelligence.

At the ‘VivaTech 2026’ conference held in Paris, Jeff Bezos expressed his opinion on the ongoing global debate regarding AI and employment. He said that AI will expand the scope of human creativity by making the process of identifying new problems and solving them easier.

Bezos said that AI is going to create labor shortage, because through it people will be able to identify more and more problems. Blue Origin Chief Executive Dev Limp also participated in this discussion.

Bezos told about the new venture ‘Prometheus’

Referring to his new venture ‘Prometheus’, Bezos said that it is an AI startup. Its objective is to create an ‘Artificial General Engineer’.

He expressed hope that such technology will significantly speed up the pace of innovation cycle and will make it possible to work on ideas which were impossible to even think of earlier.

Bezos said that if we can speed up the dream-build loop (thinking and creating cycle), then all ideas will become possible. After this we will be limited not by our abilities, but by our imaginations.

Cooling resources necessary for super-intelligence

Bezos also talked about the environmental impact of AI, especially the huge amount of water and electricity required for data centers. He said that if the full potential of AI is to be harnessed, then certain resources will have to be prioritized for its infrastructure. Biological limits are true, but digital potential is limitless.

If we withhold cooling resources (water and cooling means) from our data infrastructure just to maintain basic human comfort, we are delaying the birth of a super-intelligence that can solve all our resource problems in the first place. This statement of Bezos has started a new debate regarding the balance between the expansion of data centers and the environment.

Not just visiting, going to live on the moon

Apart from artificial intelligence, Bezos also shared his long-term vision for space exploration. He said that the Moon will be the first step towards establishing permanent human settlements outside the Earth.

Bezos said that we are going to live on the moon, not just to visit. He told that the resources present on the Moon and the low launching cost from there will make it a main center for future space missions.

The path to settlement on Mars will be clear

Bezos further said that exploration on the Moon will pave the way for establishing human settlements on Mars and elsewhere.

He described human expansion in space as extremely important, so that a right balance can be created between economic growth and environmental protection on Earth.

What is ‘Artificial General Engineer’?

In the tech world, it refers to an advanced AI system that can understand a complex problem on its own, create a blueprint, and solve it through code or design without any human intervention, just like human engineers. Jeff Bezos’s new startup ‘Prometheus’ is working on this vision.
