The Koreans controlled most of the first half, with captain Son Heung-min orchestrating their attacks. Despite dominating possession and carving out the clearer chances, they could not find a breakthrough before the interval.
The match exploded into life after the break when Czech captain Ladislav Krejci shocked South Korea, rising to head in from a long throw-in and give his side a 1-0 lead against the run of play.
South Korea hit back swiftly. Just eight minutes later, Hwang In-beom showed great composure with a superb solo effort to equalise and shift the momentum back in Korea’s favour.
The decisive twist followed soon after. Tomas Soucek briefly believed he had put Czech Republic back in front, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Almost immediately, South Korea struck at the other end, as Oh Hyeon-gyu slid in from close range to complete the comeback and seal a 2-1 victory.
