1,678 mistakes have been found in the new books of classes 1 to 8 in Odisha government schools. The government has ordered an investigation into the matter. Maximum 705 mistakes were found in class 8 books. CM Mohan Charan Majhi has given instructions to identify the people responsible and take strict action. In one book, scientist Sir Isaac Newton has been described as a pilot. These books were prepared under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Odisha Curriculum Framework 2025 for the session 2026-27. After reaching the schools, the teachers pointed out many factual, scientific and printing errors. After this the matter reached the government. Niyamgiri hills were shown in Jharkhand. The most discussed issue was the mistake in which scientist Sir Isaac Newton was described as the “greatest pilot”. Apart from this, the picture of Karnataka Assembly was printed in the name of Odisha Assembly and the picture of Hampi temple complex was printed in the name of Konark Sun Temple. In the books, Niyamgiri hills of Odisha were shown in Jharkhand. Instead of describing Brahmapur as a city of Ganjam district, it was written as a district. Wheat and paddy were also wrongly identified. Many concepts are wrong in the science books. Even in the chapters related to science, many concepts are written wrong. Temperature was described as pressure. Food cycle was written instead of food web. The word “Equator” was used instead of “Equinox”. Teachers raised questions as to how the review and checking of books was completed despite such a large number of mistakes. Maximum 705 mistakes in class 8 books: According to the School and Public Education Department, a total of 1,678 mistakes have been found in the books of classes 1 to 8. Of these, there are 705 mistakes in class 8 books alone. The department has sent the amendment list to all the schools. Teachers have been instructed to use the revised list during studies, so that the studies of the students are not affected. The inquiry committee will submit its report in seven days. After the review meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan with School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond, Chief Secretary Anu Garg and other senior officials, the Chief Minister decided to form a three-member committee under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner. The committee has been instructed to submit the report within seven days. The government has said that the entire process of preparing textbooks and checking their quality will be reviewed to ensure that such mistakes do not happen again in future.
