Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the G-7 summit in Evian city of France on Tuesday. PM Modi and US President Donald Trump were seen sitting next to each other in the outreach session of the summit. This meeting of the two leaders took place after 16 months. But PM Modi also showed a mirror to Trump from this platform.
During this, while addressing the G-7 Summit, PM Modi said that today’s world is more interconnected and dependent on each other than ever before. The energy security, food security, health security, cyber security and economic prosperity of any country are not decided only within its borders. Mobility, data, capital, technology all connect us together. In such times, the importance of partnerships naturally increases but partnerships are successful only when there is trust at their core. Today the most important strategic asset is not minerals, technology or markets but mutual trust.
He said that he believes that technology and supply chain will be used for global good and not as a weapon. There is confidence that development opportunities will not be limited to a few countries. There is confidence that global institutions will be able to fulfill the aspirations of all countries.
PM Modi said that humanity had to go through two world wars in the last century. After many sacrifices, the world community developed systems to move towards peace, stability and prosperity. The basis of these systems was also trust, but the trust built over many decades with the contribution of many generations is being hurt today. Covid showed us how hollow the claims of trust and solidarity were. Today’s world is not struggling with lack of resources but with lack of trust and the future of our partnership depends on this trust.
What did PM Modi say on the death of Indian sailors?
During this, PM Modi adopted a tough tone on the death of Indian sailors in the sea in and around Hormuz and said that we welcome the progress made in peace efforts in West Asia. Our friendly countries in West Asia have suffered loss of life and property due to this conflict. The entire world economy suffered losses due to disruption in maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz. Many citizens of India lost their lives. It is our responsibility to protect the seafarers who connect all the countries through global maritime trade. We must ensure that sea lanes remain safe, and seafarers can do their work without fear.
PM Modi said that the then Ronald Reagan of America had said that Trust but Verify. This is relevant even in today’s times. It is our responsibility towards future generations to build trust in accordance with the new era.
He said that India has always seen the world as one family. All our efforts have been based on the basic principle of Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaay i.e. welfare of all and happiness for all. India’s experience shows that development is most effective when it is linked to the aspirations of the people. This principle is also the basis of our international partnerships. With this thinking, India has taken forward global initiatives like International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission Life and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.
PM Modi said that India has considered it its responsibility to help all countries in times of crisis. During the Covid pandemic, India provided medicines and vaccines to more than 150 countries. Be it a storm in Sri Lanka, an earthquake in Afghanistan, floods in Mozambique or hurricanes in Cuba and Jamaica. India has always worked on the principle of humanity first. Our development partnerships also reflect this sentiment. Our efforts have been focused on capacity building and skill development in partner countries.
