Injured javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been provisionally added to India’s 20-member athletics squad for the Commonwealth Games 2026. The Athletics Federation of India named a strong contingent, headlined by sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur, who recently traded the national 100m record between them.
The squad includes most of India’s notable names in track and field, including decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor and high jumper Sarvesh Kushare, among others.
The notable absentee from the list is 400m specialist Vishal TK, who missed out despite becoming the first Indian to clock a sub-45-second timing in the men’s 400m event. Vishal’s national record currently stands at 44.98 secondswhich was 0.02 seconds short of the CWG 2026 qualification mark set by the Athletics Federation of India.
