US President Donald Trump on Friday claimed that Iranian drones targeted Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz, calling the alleged incident “totally unacceptable” in a strongly worded post on his Truth Social platform.
In his post, Trump wrote: “Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.”
The US president’s latest statement comes amid three attacks on commercial vessels carrying Indian crew members off the coast of Oman over the past four days. Three Indian seafarers were killed in one of the strikes.
Meanwhile, India earlier today lodged a strong protest with US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks over the series of strikes on commercial vessels carrying Indian sailors in the Gulf of Oman.
India summoned Meeks for the second time this week and conveyed New Delhi’s deep concern over the continuing attacks by US naval forces on commercial shipping.
It was New Delhi’s first public acknowledgement that US Navy targeted the three ships with Indian crew members.
