National Anti-Doping Agency suspends Bhupen Lalwani, KM Deeksha, Ajith Narayana, Sahil Jaglan and others over failed dope tests.

Former Mumbai cricketer Bhupen Lalwani, who eventually moved to Chhattisgarh and then Uttarakhand, is among 24 athletes who the National Anti-Doping Agency has provisionally suspended for failing dope tests.
Weightlifter Ajith Narayana and wrestler Sahil Jaglan were among the others who were suspended. Notably, the former had won two bronze medals at the recent Asian Championships in Gandhinagar.
Women’s 1500m national record holder KM Deeksha was also handed a provisional suspension after her dope sample was found to contain Stanozolol, a steroid. It is a widely abused performance-enhancing drug that the World Anti-Doping Agency bans.
The National Anti-Doping Agency on Saturday, June 6, issued a list of 24 athletes from various sports who have been handed provisional suspensions as of June 3.
One of the few players to have been sanctioned for a doping violation, Lalwani has represented Mumbai and Chhattisgarh in domestic cricket before moving to Uttarakhand last season.
Across formats, Lalwani has featured in 25 First-Class games, three List A matches and two T20s.
Lalwani tested positive for Terbutaline, a bronchodilator prescribed for asthma treatment. The substance is prohibited both in and out of competition under the World Anti-Doping Agency Code unless the athlete has obtained prior approval through a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
The case involving 19-year-old Jaglan, who tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozolol, is noteworthy as he had participated in the Asian Games selection trials held in Lucknow on May 31.
Jaglan was subjected to an out-of-competition test on March 26 in Lucknow and the National Anti-Doping Agency informed him of his Adverse Analytical Finding on May 26.
After the notification, Jaglan was placed under provisional suspension with immediate effect.
Still, Jaglan was permitted to compete in Lucknow five days later. He lost to Deepak Punia, the eventual winner in the men’s 97kg, in the first round.
