Max Verstappen says another F1 title remains a target but insists he won’t rush into a new Red Bull contract, admitting he must first decide if he wants to race beyond 2028.

Max Verstappen may have already secured his place among F1’s all-time greats, but the Dutchman insists his appetite for success remains intact.
The four-time world champion says winning another title is still firmly on his agenda, even though many of the major goals he once set for himself have already been achieved.
“I would like, of course, to win a championship again,” Verstappen told Vogue.
Yet the 27-year-old revealed that his ambitions are evolving. Rather than chasing a lengthy list of career milestones, he is now focused on smaller, more technical achievements that excite him as both a driver and a racing enthusiast.
“But no, there’s no real bucket list. The main ones have all been completed. What I want now are smaller achievements, like achieving a win on our own power units, stuff like that,” he said.
Verstappen also spoke about his growing fascination with the technological side of motorsport, including artificial intelligence and computing power.
“I’m just passionate about racing, and trying to build more knowledge, even down to computing power, and AI, which is in a way quite scary, but cool. You need to be a little bit of a geek for these kinds of things, but I like it.”
No Hurry Over New Contract
While Verstappen remains committed to Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season, he has once again played down suggestions that a contract extension is imminent.
Speaking ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, the reigning champion made it clear that deciding whether he even wants to continue racing beyond 2028 is a bigger priority than negotiating a fresh deal.
“I haven’t signed a new contract for a while, but that’s not the biggest concern for me right now either,” Verstappen said.
“I still have two years [on my contract].”
Verstappen has been openly critical of the sport’s upcoming power-unit rules and recently suggested he could walk away if concerns over the new engine formula are not addressed.
Asked whether Red Bull would like him to commit long-term, Verstappen responded with a smile.
“I first have to decide for myself whether I also want to continue a bit longer than 2028.”
“That’s why I’m not in a hurry. Otherwise I would have long since signed my contract until 2040!”
