Two masked individuals, including a woman, were captured on CCTV camera entering the apartment in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave, the day before the body of Delhi University assistant professor Devosmita Paul was found on Thursday, according to the police.

The development comes a day after Paul — an assistant professor at Shivaji College, DU — was found murdered inside her flat. As per the police, the preliminary investigation revealed that she was attacked with a blunt object, causing her fatal head injuries.

According to sources, cited by the Indian Express, CCTV footage extracted from cameras installed at the entrance of the apartment complex showed the duo entering Paul’s flat on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspects stayed inside the complex for around 40-45 minutes, after which they were seen leaving, said the report.

The deceased’s post-mortem examination report suggests she was killed between 3 P.M. and 6 P.M. on Wednesday. Police are now trying to reconstruct her movements to identify the sequence of events on the day of the incident.

Spoke To Mother Before Death

According to police sources, cited by the Indian Express, the call detail records of Devosmita Paul revealed that she had made the last call to her mother around 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday. Family members said she sounded normal during the call and hadn’t expressed any concern.

On Thursday afternoon, police received a PCR call from Devosmita’s sister, Devarati Paul, who had discovered the body inside the flat and alerted authorities.

Devarati — who had been trying to contact her sister since Thursday morning —arrived at her apartment and found that it was locked from the outside. Suspecting something might be wrong, she broke the lock. As she entered the flat, she discovered the body of her sister, lying in a pool of blood.

Devosmita used to live alone in her flat. Her husband resides in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

A case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 103(1), which pertains to murder, has been registered. A further probe into the matter remains underway.
