Pakistan is pretending to hold elections in the illegally occupied area, for which India scolded it harshly. Expressing strong opposition to this plan of Pakistan, India said that Pakistan should immediately vacate all the areas under its illegal occupation.
On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the so-called ‘general elections’ to be held in Gilgit-Baltistan on June 7. Pakistan are being carried out in the illegally occupied Indian territory.
The so-called Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly was established in 2009 and has a total of 33 seats, including 24 general seats, six reserved seats for women and three reserved seats for technocrats and professionals.
Reiterating India’s long-standing position, the Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘The entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including the so-called Gilgit-Baltistan, is an integral and inalienable part of India as a result of the full, legal and irrevocable merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India in 1947.’
India also accused Pakistan of attempting to divert attention from serious concerns in the region, including alleged human rights violations, political repression, economic exploitation and deprivation of fundamental freedoms.
The government said that such an effort cannot bring about any change in the situation in the area, nor can it legitimize Pakistan’s control over the area.
India clearly said that Islamabad cannot hide the fact that it continues to illegally occupy Indian territory.
