Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hit out at the Karnataka government over the recent leadership change, saying it reflected immense resentment among the people of the state.
“There is immense resentment among the people of Karnataka regarding the Congress government, and that is precisely why the party had to change its Chief Minister there,” he said while inaugurating several development projects in Gujarat’s Surat.

His remarks came two days after DK Shivakumar took charge as Karnataka’s Chief Minister along with 13 other legislators, including G Parameshwara, ending months of speculation over a leadership change. Shivakumar was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party on May 30 before being sworn in at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru, succeeding Siddaramaiah after the latter completed three years in office.
‘Congress Spreading Chaos’
The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of spreading chaos and uncertainty among the people over the last 12 years. “The people of Gujarat have pushed the Congress to the margins, but even where Congress governments exist, the public has grown weary of the party’s misgovernance,” he said.
He also pointed to the recent local body polls in Himachal Pradesh, where the BJP secured a clear majority in three of the four municipal corporations. PM Modi said the results showed that the people of the state had rejected the party’s misgovernance.
“Prior to this, the Congress lost the local body elections in Haryana, and the people of Punjab have also sent a clear message to the party. The Congress’s politics of seeking opportunities amidst chaos will not work,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi underscored that India had moved far beyond negativity and was now defined by optimism and fueled by extraordinary aspirations. “Its citizens are filled with dreams and resolve, and the people are committed to transforming that resolve into reality,” he said.
