The Class 12 student affected by the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, Sarthak Sidhant (17), appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports on Tuesday amid the controversy surrounding the implementation of the system and alleged irregularities in the OSM tendering process.
The teenager was invited to present his findings before the panel, which reviewed concerns raised by students regarding the OSM process in Class 12 examinations. A video from the venue showed the student being escorted into the meeting room as people gathered in the corridor recorded him.

Following the presentation, committee chairman and Congress MP Digvijaya Singh said, “He (Sarthak Sidhant, one of the students affected by the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system) has made his presentation. It is for the committee to decide (on the replies given by the CBSE).”
The parliamentary panel, comprising 21 Lok Sabha MPs and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs, also heard submissions from senior Ministry of Education and CBSE officials. While the committee cannot directly penalise officials, it can seek accountability, summon witnesses and demand internal records.
Sarthak first drew national attention after publishing a blog alleging irregularities in CBSE’s tender process for the OSM system. He claimed the board altered eligibility and technical criteria across multiple tender rounds in a manner that benefited Coempt EduTeck.
“There were at least 15 discrepancies, as per my blog. I would like to highlight three or four of them. Let me give a background about Coempt. It was known as Globarena, and they have a very shady background. 23 students killed themselves because of coempt,” he told ANI.
“The first discrepancy is that there were three clauses of ‘poor performance’ which were completely wiped out from the new RFP. In the earlier RFP, there was a clause called ‘blacklisted earlier’ whereas in the new RFP, it was changed to ‘blacklisted currently’. Why would the board want a service provider which was blacklisted earlier?” he added.
The issue has also drawn political attention, with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, calling for an independent judicial inquiry into the matter.
