Another batch of documents, relating to the appointment of Britain’s top diplomatic post to a man with known ties to the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was released on Monday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been facing intense pressure over Peter Mandelson’s appointment as UK envoy to Washington despite past controversies, including his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and previous resignations from Labour government posts. Starmer sacked Mandelson in September 2025, months after his appointment, following renewed scrutiny over those ties.

According to Reuters, Mandelson is currently facing police investigation only for allegedly leaking government documents to Epstein and not for any allegations of sexual misconduct.

Reuters reported that in a 1,504-page document released on Monday, the government released messages — ranging from vetting emails to personal WhatsApps — in a data dump it hopes will take some of the focus off Starmer and show that Mandelson was less than frank over his ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In one of the documents, the government said it wrote to Mandelson on March 31 requesting information held on his personal phone as part of an investigation into his appointment and work. However, he had declined to hand over any information.

According to Reuters, the government hopes the release of the documents and his messages will put an end to questions surrounding Starmer’s judgment in appointing a man whose friendship with Epstein was known.
