Film producer and former president of Film Federation of India (FFI) TP Aggarwal has moved the court against the ban imposed on artistes by film associations. Aggarwal has filed a petition in Mumbai’s Dindoshi Civil Court against the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA). He says that no organization has the legal right to stop any artist from working or issue instructions for non-cooperation. The court has issued notices to both the organisations. Steps taken amid Ranveer Singh controversy: This matter has come to light at a time when FWICE had recently issued instructions for non-cooperation against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. Ranveer Singh is in a dispute with the production house Excel Entertainment after leaving the film ‘Don 3’. After this the federation had asked its members not to work with Ranveer. TP Aggarwal has challenged similar boycott decisions in the court. He says that such decisions harm the livelihood of artists. The organization does not have the right to ban. Aggarwal has argued in his petition that no trade body or association related to the film industry can legally stop any person from working. He said that the film industry runs on mutual cooperation. Such matters should be resolved in proper legal and professional manner. Attempts to prevent someone from working cannot be taken lightly. This has a direct impact on people’s freedom to work and creativity. TP Aggarwal, who has been the President of the Film Federation, is one of the most senior and influential faces of the film industry. He has been the President of IMPPA for 17 years. Apart from this, he was also elected President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) four times. Currently he holds the position of Patron in both FFI and IMPPA organizations. The controversy started after leaving Don 3. The controversy between Ranveer Singh and the Federation started when the actor suddenly decided to walk away from Farhan Akhtar’s film ‘Don 3’. The Federation alleges that this decision of Ranveer spoiled the schedule of the film and the producers had to suffer a financial loss of Rs 45 crore. After this complaint, FWICE had issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer on May 25. Although this is not a legal ban, it may cause problems in logistics and mobilizing workers during the shooting of the film.
