One-sided love angle surfaces in Odisha washroom hidden camera case; clerk arrested

While investigating the camera scare at a government office in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur, the local police revealed that a junior clerk had installed the device in the women’s washroom. The crime was committed after his one-sided romantic pursuit of a female colleague failed.

Briefing the press about the incident, senior police official Ankit Verma said that the accused, Sanjay Adhekar, developed feelings for a female staff member. However, when his advances did not meet with a positive response, he allegedly installed a camera to record her private moments.

The police arrested the accused on Saturday. Investigations are now underway to ascertain whether any footage was recorded, stored, or shared, and whether any other individuals were involved in the offence.

Further details revealed that Adhekar learned about the use of concealed surveillance devices through YouTube and later purchased a hidden camera online. Investigators said the device was bought in January and installed inside the washroom in March this year.

The police also stated that the camera remained operational for several months. The accused allegedly retrieved and recharged the device every week, reinstalling it at the same location to continue recording footage without attracting attention.

As part of the investigation, the camera, along with a mobile phone, a pen drive, and a CCTV hard disk, has already been seized. All electronic devices have been sent for forensic examination to determine the extent of the recordings and identify any additional evidence.

PRIVACY SCARE AT ODISHA DRDA OFFICE

Last week, the hidden camera was found in the women’s washroom at the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) office, triggering widespread concerns and a police investigation.

The incident also sparked protests in the area, with employees and women’s rights advocates demanding strict action against those responsible and stronger safeguards to protect privacy within government offices.

Police earlier assured that strict legal action would be taken against all individuals associated with the crime.
