The body of 25-year-old para-athlete Chirag Tyagi was discovered in Ghaziabad on Saturday, prompting a police investigation into what officials suspect could be a murder case.
According to police, Tyagi’s body was found in the Sai Kunj area under the Kotwali police station limits. Officers rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and later shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Tyagi, a resident of Basantpur Sainthli village in Muradnagar, had recently achieved a major milestone in his sporting career. Just two days before his death, he secured a gold medal in the 400-metre race at a national competition in Bengaluru, earning qualification for the Para Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan this October.
The discovery of the body created panic in the area and left residents stunned. Family members said Tyagi had left home in the morning to go to his hostel but did not return. Hours later, news of his death reached the family, triggering grief and disbelief among relatives and locals.
Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and began collecting evidence. Investigators are questioning local residents and examining all possible angles in the case.
