Amidst the ‘Don 3’ controversy, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has come out in support of Ranveer Singh. He also raised questions on the ‘non-cooperation directive’ issued against Ranveer by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
Ram Gopal Varma wrote,
Ban FWICE, not Ranveer Singh. This so-called Gandhiji-style ban or non-cooperation will ultimately become a big joke for FWICE.The way FWICE is calling it the safety of the industry or employees, in reality the matter is not like that. This is just an attempt to show the strength of an old and useless union system, which somehow wants to maintain its influence.Whether FWICE claims that it is the voice of 5 lakh or 50 lakh employees, the truth is that most of those lakhs of people are not even aware of the real dispute going on between the two parties.
Told FWICE as ‘kangaroo court’
Describing FWICE as a ‘kangaroo court’, Ram Gopal Varma wrote,
FWICE is neither a legal court nor a government authorized regulatory body. At best, it can be described as a ‘kangaroo court’, that is, a system that claims to deliver justice but in reality ignores the rules of law, fair process and neutrality. This is because its decisions are often already decided by a private group of people with a particular agenda. These also include actors who are nervous about the tremendous success of Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar. He further said that this will prove to be a big PR disaster for FWICE, because on one hand the organization is expressing its frustration and on the other hand it is also showing its old and irrelevant thinking in front of the world.

Verma further wrote,
First of all, to prove that this claim is false, I want to say that the livelihood of millions of employees in the film industry never depends on any one actor or any one project. Therefore, saying on social media that millions of people are being harmed because of one person is an attempt to instigate people and create an atmosphere.At the root of this entire controversy is a producer’s claim that he suffered huge losses in pre-production, but this is just a private contract dispute between two parties. Such disputes happen millions of times every day and in all types of businesses in India. Then where are institutions like FWICE?Furthermore, only the parties involved in the dispute can have full knowledge of what actually happened in this case. Therefore, this matter should also remain between them like any other civil dispute. If either party goes to court, the judge must make the decision.
Ram Gopal Varma has made cult films like Satya (1998), Rangeela (1995), Company (2002), Sarkar (2005).
‘Producers will line up for Ranveer’
While challenging FWICE, Ram Gopal Varma wrote,
And if FWICE claims that the time and effort of some key technicians has been wasted, then I challenge them to come forward personally, present evidence, publicly hold Ranveer Singh accountable and declare that they will not work in any of his films in futureAnd if such a big injustice has really been done to that producer, then not only the lakhs of FWICE employees but other producers in the film industry should avoid working with Ranveer Singh.
The filmmaker also wrote,
This is where we reach the most important point of this entire matter, which everyone knows in their heart, be it the company involved in the controversy or FWICE, the truth is that if Ranveer Singh says yes just once, then tomorrow morning there will be a kilometer long queue of producers with checks outside his house. This will happen even if they have heard all the warnings from FWICE and the production company concerned
At the end of the post Ram Gopal Varma wrote,
Because the bitter truth is that it is not FWICE that sells tickets in theatres, but stars like Ranveer Singh. It is not FWICE, but stars like Ranveer Singh, who create employment opportunities for the lakhs of employees whom FWICE claims to represent. The reality is that there is a film industry because of a star like Ranveer Singh, and that is why organizations like FWICE also exist.Therefore, in the end, my unsolicited advice to all parties concerned is to avoid unnecessary interference in a private civil dispute going on between two parties.
Padmini Kolhapure also came out in support of Ranveer.
Amidst the Don 3 controversy, actress and CINTAA Vice President Padmini Kolhapure came in support of Ranveer and assured that the association is fully with him.
Speaking to IANS, Padmini Kolhapure said, ‘CINTAA is proud to have Ranveer Singh as our member. Whenever they need us, we stand with them and for them. It is already in the public domain, so I don’t want to comment further on it. We are for them, with them. If he ever needs us, we are with Ranveer Singh.
Earlier, CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon had said that despite Ranveer Singh being a CINTAA member, CINTAA was not informed about the matter. According to Poonam, the association could have tried to mediate between the two parties.
