After a traumatised teenager went viral claiming the Physics paper uploaded under his roll number wasn’t his, CBSE officials reached out the same evening to hand deliver his actual answer sheet. It took less than 24 hours for a Class 12 student’s life to crash down, get targeted by a vicious online mob, and finally reach complete vindication.
On Sunday, a CBSE student named Vedant shared a shattered plea on social media that sent shockwaves through the student community. After receiving unexpectedly low marks in his Physics board exam, Vedant and his family applied for photocopies of his answer sheet through CBSE’s official re-evaluation and verification process.
‘This Is Not My Handwriting’
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Vedant had uploaded comparisons of his actual handwriting against the paper CBSE had provided under his roll number. The student explained that his family members and teachers also noticed major differences in the uploaded Physics answer sheet. “The Physics answer sheet sent by CBSE does is not my answer sheet at all. I KNOW this is not my handwriting and it did not have the questions I attempted. Not just me, my family, teachers, and everyone who knows my writing immediately noticed the difference,” he wrote.
To support his claim, the student compared the Physics answer sheet with his English and Computer Science papers, along with his handwritten notes. He said, “The English and Computer Science copies clearly match each other. But the Physics copy looks like it belongs to another student entirely.”
“I am shattered because the Physics answer sheet uploaded by CBSE is not mine,” he wrote in his initial post. “The handwriting style, the way letters are formed, spacing, slant, the flow of sentences—everything is completely different. It’s not a minor variance. It’s an entirely different writing style.”
Vedant raised an urgent alarm, questioning if a massive systemic error in CBSE’s new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system had caused a dangerous mix-up. “If this is true, then what exactly was evaluated under my roll number? My paper? Or someone else’s? This is no longer just about ‘re-evaluation’. This could be a serious answer sheet swap or tagging error in CBSE’s OSM system,” he warned.
While many students and parents backed Vedant, demanding transparency from the board, the viral post also attracted a dark, toxic underbelly of the internet.
Instead of waiting for an administrative inquiry, online trolls immediately turned on the teenager. For the simple act of pointing out a glaring bureaucratic glitch and fighting for his future, Vedant was subjected to immense mental harassment. Armchair critics rushed to defend the system by baselessly branding the student as “anti-national” and “Pakistani.”
By Monday evening, the board reached out directly to the family to rectify the monumental error.
In a powerful follow-up post, Vedant confirmed that the system had admitted its mistake:
“We have got my correct answer sheet by CBSE. CBSE officials reached out to us in the evening and has sent my answer sheet. We were correct on our claims and the answer sheet indeed got exchanged.”

Reflecting on the harrowing day, Vedant expressed gratitude but didn’t shy away from addressing the trauma caused by the public backlash. “Thanks to the people who supported us in these tough times and we faced so much mental harassment because of this. People called us antinational and Pakistani just because we raised a genuine concern and at the end Truth has prevailed,” he wrote.
According to a report in HT, in an email to student Vedant Shrivastava, CBSE Joint Secretary (Coordination) acknowledged the answer sheet mismatch and said his marks would be revised soon. A senior CBSE official also confirmed that the correct Physics answer sheet had been emailed to him, but said the board would investigate how the wrong paper was uploaded under his roll number.
